Course Description
This learning activity equips nurses with evidence-based knowledge and clinical strategies for addressing adolescent substance use disorders, emphasizing the unique developmental considerations that distinguish adolescent treatment from adult approaches. Nurses will learn to implement validated screening tools (CRAFFT, PHQ-A, GAD-7) to assess substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, understand current trends including fentanyl contamination and emerging substances like Delta-8-THC, and apply treatment modalities such as motivational interviewing and family-centered interventions. The content addresses complex legal and ethical considerations around adolescent consent and confidentiality while providing specialized knowledge for working with vulnerable populations, ultimately preparing nurses to deliver developmentally appropriate care that can significantly impact recovery outcomes and prevent lifelong addiction patterns.
