Course Description
This learning activity equips nurses to detect and manage chronic kidney disease (CKD), a condition affecting 37 million Americans with 90% of early-stage cases undiagnosed. Learners will master systematic screening of at-risk patients, accurate interpretation of eGFR and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio results, and application of current staging frameworks to guide clinical decision-making. The content explores evidence-based interventions to slow disease progression, including breakthrough kidney-protective therapies such as SGLT2 inhibitors, non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and GLP-1 receptor agonists. Nurses will develop competency in patient education, lifestyle modification counseling, medication management, recognition of nephrology referral criteria, and interdisciplinary care coordination essential to preventing kidney failure and reducing cardiovascular complications in patients with CKD.
