Course Description
This learning activity examines cultural competence in ambulatory perioperative nursing, focusing on delivering culturally sensitive care within the compressed timeframes of same-day surgery. The content provides evidence-based strategies for rapid cultural assessment, culturally adapted interventions across all perioperative phases, and systematic competency development. Drawing from Joint Commission standards and AORN guidelines, nurses will learn practical approaches for addressing language barriers, pain management variations, religious considerations, and diverse patient populations including transgender and refugee patients, while integrating cultural competence into patient safety protocols and quality improvement initiatives in fast-paced surgical environments.
