Course Description
This comprehensive learning activity prepares nurses to identify and respond to intimate partner violence (IPV) through evidence-based screening and intervention strategies. Content covers current USPSTF recommendations, validated screening tools (HITS, WAST, Danger Assessment), and trauma-informed care principles that prioritize patient safety and autonomy. Nurses will learn age-specific screening considerations across the lifespan, proper documentation techniques, state-varying mandatory reporting requirements, and comprehensive safety planning strategies including technology safety and community resource referral. The activity addresses the dynamics of abusive relationships, cultural competence for diverse populations including LGBTQ+ individuals, and practical guidance for creating safe environments for disclosure while balancing legal obligations with ethical patient-centered care principles.
