Course Description
This learning activity equips school nurses with evidence-based mindfulness and stress reduction strategies to address the growing mental health crisis among school-aged children. Drawing on current neurobiological research and post-pandemic data, it guides nurses through recognizing stress-related somatic and behavioral presentations, delivering brief clinical interventions within the real constraints of a school health office, and adapting techniques appropriately for diverse and vulnerable student populations - including those with trauma histories, developmental differences, and language barriers. Practical tools including box breathing, grounding, progressive muscle relaxation, and mindful movement are presented alongside a clinical framework for documentation, triage, and escalation, with additional guidance on expanding nursing influence through classroom collaboration, care plan integration, and advocacy for formal school-based programming.
