Course Description
This learning activity provides nurses with an evidence-based framework for planning and executing safe, family-centered NICU discharge. It examines the core components of discharge readiness - including infant physiologic stability, caregiver education and competency verification, and post-discharge service coordination - alongside interdisciplinary team roles, parental mental health screening, and the nurse's legal and documentation responsibilities. Current trends in telehealth follow-up, continuity of care models, and AI-assisted screening tools are also addressed, equipping nurses to navigate the evolving post-NICU care landscape and advocate effectively for the families in their care.
