Course Description

This evidence-based learning activity covers core principles in assessing and managing acute and chronic pain in pediatric patients from infancy through adolescence. It explores developmental factors impacting pain pathways, outward manifestations of pain, and choices of age-appropriate tools for systematic evaluation. Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions are discussed, tailored to developmental variations in therapeutic response, adverse effects, and optimal delivery methods. Nurses will gain key competencies in pediatric pain evaluation techniques, pain scale selection and application, medication administration and monitoring, and integration of psychological, physical, and integrative modalities with consideration for age.
