This learning activity explores autism-affirming communication strategies for nurses, examining how neurodevelopmental differences shape patient interaction across clinical settings. Drawing on current CDC prevalence data and contemporary neurodiversity frameworks, it challenges deficit-based assumptions about autism and equips nurses to reframe patient behaviors through a needs-based lens, adapt communication approaches to individual abilities, and reduce preventable distress in autistic patients throughout the care continuum.
