Course Description
This learning activity provides nurses with current, evidence-based knowledge on preterm labor management, covering pathophysiology, risk assessment, prevention strategies, and acute care interventions. The learning activity addresses recent clinical updates including the 2023 FDA withdrawal of 17-OHPC and current progesterone therapy recommendations, while emphasizing health equity and the disproportionate impact on Black women. Nurses will gain competency in implementing prevention strategies such as cervical length monitoring and progesterone counseling, managing established preterm labor through safe tocolytic administration and maternal-fetal monitoring, and providing culturally sensitive patient education. The learning activity integrates social determinants of health, interprofessional collaboration, and evidence-based nursing interventions to equip perinatal nurses with the knowledge needed to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes while addressing persistent healthcare disparities.
