Course Description
This learning activity summarizes the key aspects of tetralogy of Fallot relevant to technical nursing audiences in order to strengthen care provision across the lifespan. Beginning with a review of the underlying etiology and embryology contributing to tetralogy of Fallot, the essay details the four characteristic anatomical defects along with corresponding clinical presentation and gold standard diagnostic modalities. Both medical and surgical options are outlined to highlight the rationale and expected outcomes for patients of different ages and disease severity. Recognizing the complexity of long-term sequelae of tetralogy of Fallot despite advances in early corrective surgery, a significant portion of the essay spotlights interprofessional interventions to streamline transitional care coordination between pediatric and adult congenital specialty services. Practical case examples and evidenced-based recommendations equip nurses to optimize education, surveillance, and family support for tetralogy of Fallot patients.
