Course Description
This evidence-based learning activity explores the critical role of long-term care nursing assistants in promoting resident independence through restorative care approaches. The material examines activities of daily living (ADLs) as fundamental expressions of dignity and autonomy, presents person-centered strategies for supporting resident capabilities while managing safety risks, and demonstrates how therapeutic communication and adaptive techniques can maintain or improve functional status. Through realistic case examples and current best practices aligned with CMS regulations and Joint Commission standards, learners will understand how to shift from task-oriented custodial care to empowering, relationship-centered approaches that honor each resident's potential for growth and preserve their quality of life in long-term care settings.
