Course Description
This evidence-based learning activity prepares obstetric and gynecologic nurses to implement trauma-informed care principles in clinical practice. Nurses will learn to recognize neurobiological trauma responses, apply SAMHSA's six core principles, and use practical communication strategies during intimate examinations and labor care to minimize re-traumatization. The module addresses the reality that 50-80% of reproductive healthcare patients have trauma histories, providing essential skills in universal trauma precautions, grounding techniques, and trauma screening aligned with ACOG guidelines and Joint Commission standards. Content emphasizes inclusive care, health equity, and evidence-based practices that transform potentially triggering healthcare encounters into healing experiences for all patients.
