Course Description
This learning activity examines the application of trauma-informed care principles across the ambulatory surgery continuum, guiding nurses through SAMHSA's core framework as it applies to preoperative assessment, intraoperative dignity and consent, PACU emergence and differential assessment, and individualized discharge teaching, while also addressing nurse leaders' responsibility to recognize and support staff experiencing vicarious trauma and second-victim distress; grounded in current epidemiological data, DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, and accreditation trends, it equips ASC nurses to integrate psychological safety into routine perioperative practice without compromising standard clinical safety priorities.
