Course Description
This learning activity examines the expanding role of wearable biosensors in nursing practice, from continuous vital sign monitoring and early deterioration detection in the hospital to remote patient monitoring, continuous glucose monitoring, and emerging biochemical sensing technologies in community and outpatient settings. Drawing on current evidence and regulatory guidance, the activity addresses both the clinical promise of these tools and their real limitations - including alarm fatigue, measurement accuracy gaps across diverse patient populations, device failure modes, and privacy and cybersecurity considerations - with an emphasis throughout on the nurse's role in verifying, interpreting, and acting on biosensor-generated data rather than deferring to it. Through case-based examples and practical guidance, the content is designed to help nurses integrate wearable biosensor technology into practice safely, critically, and equitably.
